The new import regulations and import-related documents do not apply to Northern Ireland
From January 1, 2021, new regulations for imports into the UK are in force, and according to them, new procedures are applied and new documents are required. Your customs agent will arrange for compliance with the procedures. We must specify that for imports into Northern Ireland, there are no changes in the procedures and requirements for import documents.
What is important for customs declarations from January 1, 2021
Your customs agent will explain that you need to complete a customs declaration. In this regard, you must provide invoices for the goods – commercial or pro forma invoices indicating the origin of the goods.
If the goods meet the rules of origin requirements, no customs duties will normally be charged. Customs declarations will be required as the UK is no longer part of the customs union.
It is important to provide evidence of the country of origin of the goods in order to benefit from the zero tariff, which means that, under the trade agreement between the UK and the EU, no customs duties will be charged if the origin is proven. However, it should be noted that VAT will be charged. Your customs agent will explain the rules for charging VAT on your types of goods.
To arrange customs representation for imports into the UK, we will provide you with an experienced and competent customs agent from A Logistics.
